A gassystem, or gas system, is a network and set of equipment that supplies, regulates, and monitors gaseous fuels or process gases from a source to end-use points. In homes and commercial buildings it usually distributes natural gas or LPG to appliances; in industry and laboratories it handles a wider range of gases at various pressures and purities.

A typical gassystem consists of a source, service lines, piping, valves, regulators, meters, and safety devices. The source may be a utility supply, gas cylinders, or a plant gas generator. Piping materials include steel, copper, or plastics. Downstream are pressure regulators, shut-off valves, and monitors. Larger installations use gas cabinets, manifolds, leak detectors, and control systems.

Domestic systems operate at low pressure with safety features such as backflow prevention and adequate ventilation. Industrial and laboratory systems may use higher pressures, require purge cycles, gas detection, and interlocks, and must comply with local regulations and standards. Natural gas is often odorized to aid leak detection; some process gases require alternative detection methods.

Maintenance and safety are essential. Regular inspections, leak testing, corrosion protection for underground mains, and verification of regulators and alarms help prevent accidents. Proper design, installation, and commissioning should follow applicable codes and standards appropriate to the gas type and environment.
