Gammatocopherol is a form of vitamin E, belonging to the tocopherol family. It is one of the eight vitamin E compounds found in nature, alongside alpha-, beta-, and deltatocopherols. Structurally, gammatocopherol is characterized by a chromanol ring and a phytyl tail, with a methyl group at the 7-position on the chromanol ring. This structural difference distinguishes it from alphatocopherol, which has a methyl group at the 5-position.

In terms of dietary sources, gammatocopherol is primarily found in vegetable oils, particularly soybean, corn, and cottonseed oils. It is also present in nuts and seeds. While all tocopherols possess antioxidant properties, their biological activities and absorption rates differ. Alphatocopherol is considered the most biologically active form of vitamin E in humans, playing a crucial role in protecting cell membranes from oxidative damage.
