Fumigatuspecific is an adjective used in microbiology and clinical mycology to describe something that is unique to or derived from Aspergillus fumigatus, the most common opportunistic mold in humans. The term is typically applied to antigens, antibodies, nucleic acid targets, or immune responses that are specific to A. fumigatus and help distinguish it from other species within the genus Aspergillus or other fungi.

In clinical diagnostics, fumigatuspecific assays are designed to detect A. fumigatus–related components, such as genus or species-specific antibodies (for example, IgG or IgE against A. fumigatus) or DNA sequences unique to A. fumigatus. Such assays support the diagnosis of fungal diseases like chronic pulmonary aspergillosis or allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis when used in combination with imaging and clinical criteria. However, some antigenic or genetic markers may cross-react with other Aspergillus species, so results must be interpreted cautiously and often in conjunction with other tests.

In research, fumigatuspecific reagents or probes enable studies of A. fumigatus biology, virulence factors, and host responses. They can be used to track infection dynamics, characterize strain-specific traits, or develop targeted diagnostics and therapeutics.
