fosinopril
Fosinopril is a medication belonging to the class of drugs known as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It is primarily used to treat high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, and heart failure. By inhibiting the ACE enzyme, fosinopril prevents the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor, meaning it narrows blood vessels, and also stimulates the release of aldosterone, which promotes sodium and water retention. Therefore, by blocking the production of angiotensin II, fosinopril leads to vasodilation, or widening of blood vessels, and reduces sodium and water retention, thereby lowering blood pressure.
Fosinopril is typically administered orally and is often prescribed as a component of a broader treatment
