The core responsibilities of a fondijuht include formulating and adjusting the asset allocation, selecting and monitoring securities and other investments, performing research and due diligence, and managing risk—measuring factors such as volatility, drawdown, and liquidity. They must ensure compliance with the fund’s investment policy and applicable laws, and typically report to the fund’s board or supervisory body and to investors. Depending on the size of the fund, the fondijuht may also oversee trading, interact with analysts and risk managers, and coordinate with fund administration and external auditors.

Fondijuhts are usually employed by asset management companies, banks, or pension funds and may work within teams or as sole decision-makers for smaller funds. The role requires a strong fiduciary mindset, as well as expertise in financial markets, instruments, and quantitative analysis. Common qualifications include higher education in finance, economics, or mathematics and professional designations such as the CFA or CAIA, along with several years of investment experience.
