Folyadékgyülemek refer to the abnormal accumulation of fluid in body cavities or tissues. These collections can occur in various locations, including the pleural space (pleural effusion), peritoneal cavity (ascites), pericardial sac (pericardial effusion), and within soft tissues. The development of fluid collections is often a sign of an underlying medical condition rather than a disease itself.

Causes are diverse and depend on the location of the fluid accumulation. For instance, pleural effusions can result from infections, heart failure, malignancy, or pulmonary embolism. Ascites is commonly associated with liver cirrhosis, but also with heart failure, kidney disease, and certain cancers. Pericardial effusions can be caused by inflammation of the pericardium (pericarditis), infections, or as a complication of medical treatments. Soft tissue fluid collections, or edema, can be generalized due to systemic conditions like heart failure or kidney disease, or localized due to inflammation, infection, or trauma.

Diagnosis typically involves medical history, physical examination, and imaging studies such as ultrasound, CT scans, or X-rays. Aspiration and analysis of the collected fluid can provide crucial information for determining the underlying cause. Treatment strategies are aimed at addressing the root cause and may include diuretics, paracentesis (drainage of fluid), surgical interventions, or management of the primary disease. Prognosis varies widely depending on the etiology and the patient's overall health status.
