Approaches such as task-based and communicative language teaching seek to improve fluency by prioritizing interaction and authentic language use over isolated grammar drills. In cognitive and psycholinguistic research, fluency is studied in relation to processing speed, working memory, and lexical retrieval, as well as sociolinguistic factors like audience, discourse context, and national or regional varieties. It is important to recognize that fluency is context-dependent and that high fluency does not always equate to perfect accuracy or depth of language knowledge.
