flagokat
Flagokat is a type of folk art originating from the region of Taltal, Chile. It is characterized by intricate carvings made on dried fish skins, primarily from the species *Scophthalmus maximus*, commonly known as turbot. The process involves carefully cleaning, drying, and then meticulously incising designs onto the flexible skin. These designs often depict local flora and fauna, geometric patterns, or scenes from daily life.
The art form is believed to have developed out of necessity and resourcefulness among coastal communities.
