filmirullat
Filmirullat, or film reels, are spools that hold photographic or motion picture film. In photography, they are typically used to store and transport rolls of film, especially before the widespread adoption of digital cameras. These reels protect the film from light and physical damage. For motion pictures, film reels are integral to the projection process. Projectors feed the film from one reel, past the light source and lens, and onto a second reel. The size and capacity of these reels vary depending on the type of film and its intended use. Smaller reels might hold a few minutes of footage, while larger ones can accommodate longer films. The development of plastic reels in the mid-20th century made them more durable and less prone to warping compared to earlier metal or cardboard versions. The term "filmirullat" is commonly used in Finnish, directly translating to "film reel." It encompasses both the physical object and the concept of film storage in a rolled format.
