The name, a portmanteau of fermion and the Italian word inventati ("invented"), signals that the concept is a constructed tool for exploring ideas rather than an established particle.

In typical formulations, fermoinventati arise as emergent low-energy excitations in lattice models or field theories that mimic Dirac or Majorana fermions but with model-specific constraints. They are used to illustrate how fermionic degrees of freedom can appear in strongly interacting systems and how their properties depend on symmetry, dimensionality, and topology.

Properties assigned to fermoinventati are deliberately broad and model-dependent.
