Feberfritt, or fever-free, is a term used to describe a state in which the body temperature is not elevated beyond the typical baseline. In medicine, fever is commonly defined as a measured temperature at or above 38°C (100.4°F). Feberfritt therefore refers to temperatures consistently below this threshold, or to a period in which no fever is detected. The term is used in clinical notes as well as in everyday health communications to indicate that fever is absent.

Temperature measurement methods affect whether a reading is classified as fever. Oral and tympanic readings are common in adults, while axillary or rectal measurements may be used for children or specific clinical settings; different sites have slightly different reference ranges. Practical guidelines often define fever-free status as having no fever for a defined period, typically 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medications, with improvement of symptoms. Fever-free does not necessarily exclude infection, as some diseases or viral infections may be contagious even when the fever is absent.

In practice, fever-free status is used in decisions about returning to school, work, or travel after an illness. Policies vary by institution, but many require at least one day without fever and with symptom improvement. It is important to consider other symptoms, contagion risk, and the underlying cause of fever when interpreting fever-free status. Non-infectious causes of fever, such as inflammatory or autoimmune conditions or medication effects, may affect fever patterns.
