It lies on a gentle clay plain beside the Farsen River, with mixed deciduous forests, small farms, and a network of local lanes. The climate is temperate, with mild winters, warm summers, and rainfall spread throughout the year.

Fargeside originated around a 15th-century dye works and a market square. A railway spur arrived in the 19th century, helping trade and growth. It later became part of the Westhaven district, and its river port faded as rail and road transport shifted.

Historically, the economy centered on dye production, textiles, and wood processing. Today it combines light manufacturing, services, and rural tourism. The settlement has about 8,000 residents, with a median age in the mid-40s and a profile typical of small rural towns in Northmere.
