Fallskjemping, also known as parachuting or skydiving in some contexts, is a recreational activity and sport involving jumping from an aircraft and descending through the atmosphere using a parachute. The activity originated in the early 20th century and has since evolved into a popular sport, with participants often performing acrobatic maneuvers and formations during free fall.

The typical skydiving process begins with enthusiasts boarding an aircraft, which ascends to a designated altitude. At the desired height, the jumper exits the aircraft and enters free fall, which lasts from several seconds to over a minute depending on altitude and fall rate. During free fall, divers can reach speeds of approximately 180 km/h (112 mph) and often perform body positions and maneuvers to control their descent and stability.

Deployment of the parachute usually occurs around 1,000 to 2,500 meters (3,280 to 8,200 feet) above ground. Once the main parachute is deployed, the skydiver maneuvers to steer and slow descent, aiming for a safe and controlled landing. Modern parachutes are highly engineered, providing stability and maneuverability, and many skydivers wear altimeters and other safety equipment.

Fallskjemping is regulated to ensure safety, with mandatory training, certifications, and equipment checks mandated by relevant authorities. The activity can be performed solo after proper training or in tandem with an experienced instructor, especially for first-time jumpers.
