Fagyasztók, known in English as freezers, are kitchen appliances designed to maintain very low temperatures, typically around -18 degrees Celsius (0 degrees Fahrenheit) or below. This process of freezing food significantly slows down the activity of microorganisms and enzymatic reactions, thereby preserving the food for extended periods.

There are several common types of freezers. Chest freezers are large, lidded units that sit on the floor and offer significant storage capacity. They are often more energy-efficient due to the way cold air settles at the bottom. Upright freezers resemble refrigerators and come in various sizes, some with freezer drawers and others with shelves. They are generally easier to organize and access than chest freezers. Many refrigerators also incorporate a freezer compartment, ranging from small top-mounted units to larger side-by-side models.

The primary function of a freezer is food preservation. Freezing is an effective method for storing perishable items such as meat, fish, fruits, vegetables, and prepared meals, extending their shelf life by months or even years. When using a freezer, it's important to ensure proper temperature maintenance and to avoid overpacking, which can impede air circulation. Foods should be properly wrapped to prevent freezer burn, a process that dries out food and alters its texture and flavor. Defrosting is also a consideration, as frost buildup can reduce efficiency.
