A facklåda can be a simple box with dividers or a more complex system with adjustable walls, removable compartments, and labeling areas to aid inventory.

Materials vary widely. Common plastics such as polypropylene (PP) or ABS are typical, but metal variants in steel or aluminum also exist. Many models feature clear lids or transparent fronts to allow at-a-glance identification, and some have adjustable or removable dividers, stackable frames, rubber feet, and secure latches for transport.
