Félvezeteszközök, often translated as semiconductor devices, are electronic components that exploit the electrical properties of semiconductor materials. These materials, such as silicon and germanium, have electrical conductivity between that of a conductor and an insulator. This unique property allows for the control of electrical current flow, making them fundamental to modern electronics.

The operation of semiconductor devices relies on the behavior of charge carriers, which can be either electrons or holes. In intrinsic semiconductors, the number of electrons and holes is equal. However, by introducing impurities, a process called doping, the concentration of either electrons or holes can be significantly increased, creating n-type (excess electrons) or p-type (excess holes) semiconductors.

The junction formed between n-type and p-type semiconductor materials is crucial. This p-n junction exhibits a rectifying property, allowing current to flow predominantly in one direction. This principle is the basis for diodes, which are essential for converting alternating current to direct current.

More complex semiconductor devices, like transistors, are formed by combining multiple semiconductor layers. Transistors act as amplifiers or switches, controlling a larger current with a smaller one. This ability to amplify and switch signals is the foundation of digital logic and is integral to the operation of microprocessors, memory chips, and virtually all electronic circuits. The development and miniaturization of these devices have driven the information technology revolution.
