The fékpedál, often translated as brake pedal, is a crucial control mechanism in a vehicle. Its primary function is to activate the braking system, allowing the driver to slow down or stop the vehicle. When the driver presses the fékpedál, it typically engages a hydraulic or mechanical system that applies friction to the wheels, converting kinetic energy into heat and thus reducing the vehicle's speed.

The fékpedál is usually located on the floor of the driver's compartment, to the left of the accelerator pedal. Its design and resistance are engineered to provide the driver with a tactile sense of the braking force being applied. Modern vehicles often incorporate features like power brakes, which use vacuum assistance or hydraulic pressure to reduce the physical effort required to operate the fékpedál.
