Exposurefused is a term that can refer to a technique or a result within digital photography and image processing. At its core, it relates to the merging of multiple images of the same scene that have been captured with different exposure settings. This process is commonly known as High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging or exposure bracketing. The goal is to overcome the limitations of a single photograph in capturing detail in both the very bright and very dark areas of a scene simultaneously.

When a camera captures an image, its sensor has a finite dynamic range, meaning it can only record a certain range of light intensities. In scenes with high contrast, such as a bright sky with a shadowed foreground, a single exposure will either result in blown-out highlights (pure white with no detail) or crushed blacks (pure black with no detail). To address this, multiple exposures are taken: one for the highlights, one for the midtones, and one for the shadows.

The term "exposurefused" specifically describes the outcome of combining these bracketed exposures. Software analyzes the different images and intelligently blends them, selecting the best exposed portions from each to create a single image with an expanded dynamic range. This fused image aims to retain detail across the entire tonal spectrum, presenting a more visually accurate and often more aesthetically pleasing representation of the original scene. While it can lead to a more natural look, over-processing can sometimes result in an unnatural or "over-HDR" appearance.
