Explosion detection refers to methods and systems designed to identify the presence of explosives or to detect the occurrence of an explosion, enabling rapid response, risk assessment, and deterrence. Applications span airports, border crossings, seaports, couriers, critical infrastructure facilities, military operations, and emergency response. Advances focus on portable, rapid-deployment detectors, improved sensitivity to low vapor concentrations, and integrated security architectures that combine screening, event detection, and incident management. Challenges include high false-alarm rates, environmental interference, and evasion tactics by adversaries.
