Exame observação is a medical assessment technique in which a clinician observes a patient’s behavior, physiological responses, and interactions over a defined period rather than relying solely on direct questioning or static measurements. The method is often employed in fields such as psychiatry, neurology, and developmental pediatrics, where much of the diagnostic information is conveyed through subtle changes in posture, speech, eye contact, or social engagement. In practice, the examiner may use standardized observation protocols, checklists of observable signs, or video recording to capture repeated episodes that might be missed in brief consultations. The goal is to triangulate information from multiple modalities—clinical interview, physical exam, and observation—to construct a comprehensive picture of the patient’s condition.
