Enkelelektronvågfunktioner, often translated as single-electron wave functions, describe the quantum mechanical state of an individual electron within a system. Unlike classical physics, where an electron has a definite position and momentum, quantum mechanics treats electrons as probability distributions. The wave function, typically represented by the Greek letter psi ($\psi$), is a mathematical function that encapsulates all the information about an electron's state.
