Energiudtag is the amount of energy withdrawn from an energy source by a consumer, facility, or installation over a defined period. In electricity networks, it refers to the electric energy that is drawn from the grid and is typically recorded by meters at the point of connection. The concept can also apply to other energy carriers, such as gas or district heating, where the drawn energy is measured in appropriate units (for example cubic meters for gas or megawatt-hours for heat).

Energyudtag is different from instantaneous power. Energy is a cumulative quantity measured over time (expressed in kilowatt-hours, kWh, or megawatt-hours, MWh), while power denotes the current rate of consumption (kilowatts, kW). Metering equipment collects energyudtag data, which is used for billing, grid planning, and demand management. Tariffs may differentiate between ordinary consumption and peak demand, and time-of-use pricing or capacity charges can be linked to the level of energyudtag during specific periods.

In building and industrial contexts, tracking energyudtag supports operational optimization, identification of inefficiencies, and progress toward energy-reduction targets. For large consumers, high energyudtag can trigger demand-response programs, where consumption is reduced during peak grid stress to maintain system stability.

Regulatory and market practices vary by country, but energyudtag data is generally gathered by the distribution system operator or energy supplier and stored in metering records. These records are subject to privacy and data protection rules and are essential for transparent billing and reliable energy system operation.
