Endsealing is the process of sealing the exposed or terminating ends of an element to prevent ingress of moisture, air, dust, or chemicals and to improve performance and longevity. It is used across industries to protect against corrosion, contamination, and environmental exposure, as well as to enhance thermal and acoustic performance in some assemblies.

In piping and tubing, endsealing methods include installing mechanical end caps or plugs and applying sealants at the joint ends. For electrical and communication cables and conduits, endsealing often involves heat-shrink sleeves, potting compounds, or silicone sealants to block moisture and debris. In construction and insulation, endsealing is applied to foam boards, spray-applied insulation, and ductwork ends, using sealants, tapes, or foams to create an airtight and watertight barrier. In concrete and fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) applications, endsealing can refer to sealing porous or hollow ends to control moisture migration and entry of chlorides.

Key considerations include material compatibility, exposure conditions (temperature, moisture, UV), pressure rating, and the service life of the sealant or cap. Proper surface preparation, curing, and joining method are essential for lasting performance. Endsealing can reduce leaks, provide corrosion protection, improve energy efficiency, and help prevent contamination in sensitive systems.
