Endometriumbiopsia, also known as an endometrial biopsy, is a medical procedure performed to obtain a small sample of the endometrium, the inner lining of the uterus. This sample is then sent to a laboratory for microscopic examination to detect abnormalities. The procedure is typically performed in a doctor's office and usually takes only a few minutes.

The primary reasons for performing an endometrial biopsy include investigating abnormal uterine bleeding, such as heavy periods, bleeding between periods, or postmenopausal bleeding. It is also used to diagnose or rule out conditions like uterine polyps, fibroids, endometrial hyperplasia, and endometrial cancer. In some cases, it may be used to assess the effects of hormone therapy or to investigate infertility.

During the procedure, the doctor will insert a speculum into the vagina to visualize the cervix. The cervix is then cleaned, and a thin, flexible tube called a catheter is gently inserted through the cervical opening into the uterus. A small amount of tissue is suctioned through the catheter. Some women may experience mild cramping or discomfort during and after the biopsy, which can often be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.

The results of the endometrial biopsy are usually available within a few days to a week. Depending on the findings, further treatment or diagnostic steps may be recommended by the healthcare provider. While generally safe, like any medical procedure, there are potential risks, though they are rare. These can include infection, bleeding, or perforation of the uterus.
