Elevarbete is typically produced within school activities or extended projects and may be presented in class exhibitions, online portfolios, or learning journals.

Forms of elevarbete vary widely. They can include research reports, lab demonstrations, essays, multimedia presentations, design tasks, or collaborative artefacts. The emphasis is often on authentic tasks that integrate knowledge across subjects and foster skills such as analysis, communication and problem solving. In many schools, elevarbete serves as evidence for assessment and progression, with teachers using rubrics and feedback to guide student development.

Pedagogically, elevarbete supports student agency and formative assessment.
