elektripliit

Elektripliit (electric stove) is a kitchen appliance used to cook food by electric heating. In homes it is usually a freestanding unit with a cooktop and often an integrated oven.

Heating methods include coil elements under metal reflectors, radiant ceramic glass tops, and induction tops that heat pots directly through magnetic fields. Induction is fast and efficient but requires suitable cookware.

Most models offer four or five cooking zones and an oven. Controls are knobs or digital panels, with features such as timers and residual-heat indicators.

Operation is simple: adjust heat for boiling or simmering and use the oven as needed. Surfaces remain hot after use, so allow cooling time. Clean with non-abrasive cleaners and avoid spills near controls.

Electric stoves spread in the 20th century, evolving from coil designs to ceramic tops and, later, to induction in many markets. In Estonia and other Baltic countries, elektripliit is a common household appliance.

Energy efficiency depends on the heating method and electricity source. Induction and modern ceramic tops are generally efficient; the environmental footprint depends on the electricity grid mix.
