In organic chemistry, the term "electrophilní" (derived from the Czech word for "electrophilic") refers to electrophilic species or reactions, which are fundamental concepts in chemical reactivity. An electrophile is a reagent that is electron-deficient and seeks electrons, typically participating in chemical reactions by accepting an electron pair to form new covalent bonds. This property makes electrophiles highly reactive toward nucleophiles, which are electron-rich species that donate electron pairs.

Electrophilic reactions are common in various organic transformations, such as electrophilic aromatic substitution, electrophilic addition, and electrophilic nucleophilic addition. These reactions often involve carbocations, polar molecules, or Lewis acids as electrophilic intermediates. For example, in the halogenation of alkanes, a halogen molecule (like Cl₂) acts as an electrophile after being polarized by a catalyst, leading to the substitution of a hydrogen atom on the alkane.

Electrophiles can be classified into several types based on their structure and reactivity. Neutral electrophiles include polar molecules like carbonyl compounds (aldehydes and ketones), where the carbon atom is partially positive due to electronegative oxygen. The reactivity of electrophiles depends on factors like charge, electronegativity, and steric hindrance.
