Dynamometric refers to anything related to a dynamometer or dynamometry, the measurement of force, torque, or power. A dynamometer is a device that converts mechanical effort into a readable signal, enabling quantitative assessment of strength, movement, or engine performance.

In human testing, dynamometry covers devices such as handheld dynamometers for grip strength, and more sophisticated isometric or isokinetic dynamometers that measure joint torque under controlled conditions. Isokinetic systems maintain a constant movement speed while recording torque and work. In industrial and automotive settings, engine or chassis dynamometers measure power and torque output from engines or complete vehicles, often for performance testing or efficiency assessments.

Principles and outputs vary by device, but most dynamometers rely on sensors such as load cells or strain gauges to transduce mechanical force into electrical signals. Measurements are typically expressed in newtons (N) or pounds-force (lbf) for force, and newton-meters (Nm) for torque; power is derived in watts (W) or horsepower (hp). Calibration and standardized testing protocols are essential to ensure accuracy and comparability across devices and laboratories.
