Dryppemittere is a small water-dispensing device used in drip irrigation systems to release water gradually to the root zone of plants. It is mounted on or integrated into irrigation tubing and serves to convert a high-pressure supply into a controlled, low-volume flow. The term is often used synonymously with drip emitters, though some contexts distinguish between inline emitters and point-source emitters.

Its operation depends on water pressure driving flow through a precision orifice or membrane inside the emitter. The discharge rate is typically specified in liters per hour. There are different designs, including pressure-compensating emitters that aim to keep flow constant over a range of pressures, and non-pressure-compensating emitters whose flow varies with pressure and temperature.

Emitters come in several configurations, including inline emitters molded into tubing and point-source emitters installed near individual plants. Some systems use micro-sprayers or surge emitters to cover slightly larger areas, but all are considered dryppemittere devices within drip irrigation.

Design considerations include the influence of supply pressure, line diameter, and upstream filtration. Clogging by silt, minerals, or biofilm is a common issue, so filtration and regular maintenance are important. Flow-rate selection and emitter spacing should match crop water needs and soil properties.
