direktsikt

Direktsikt, or direct line of sight, is the unobstructed straight-line path between an observer and a target. In geometric terms it is the set of points along a single straight line that connects two positions without crossing through opaque objects. The concept depends on the relative heights and positions of the observer, target, and any intervening terrain or structures.

The term is used across several disciplines. In architecture and urban planning, direktsikt concerns maintaining clear visual connections between spaces, such as lines of sight from building entrances, seating areas, or public squares to important features or hazards. Designers assess sightlines to balance safety, surveillance, and aesthetic qualities within a landscape or built environment.

In traffic engineering, direct sight is critical for safety. Direct sight distances describe how far a driver or pedestrian must be able to see to react to a hazard or follow traffic signals. Regulations often specify minimum sightline requirements at intersections, driveways, and curves, with obstructions such as parked vehicles, walls, or vegetation needing to be kept clear to preserve adequate direktsikt.

In computer graphics, video games, and robotics, direktsikt is a computational concept used to determine visibility. An entity is considered to have line of sight to another if the straight-line segment between them does not intersect obstacles, affecting decisions like targeting, AI perception, and rendering.
