A diafragmalevy, often referred to as a diaphragm or diaphragm plate, is a component found in various mechanical systems, most notably in certain types of pumps, valves, and loudspeakers. Its primary function is to act as a flexible barrier that separates two chambers or transmits motion.

In pumps, a diafragmalevy is a flexible membrane that moves back and forth, creating a pumping action. As it moves, it increases and decreases the volume of a chamber, drawing fluid in and then expelling it. This type of pump is known as a diaphragm pump. These are often used for handling corrosive, abrasive, or shear-sensitive fluids due to the minimal contact the fluid has with moving parts.

In valves, a diafragmalevy can serve to seal off a passageway or to control flow. When pressurized, the diaphragm can deform, opening or closing an orifice. This allows for precise control of fluid or gas flow in industrial and automotive applications.

In loudspeakers, the diafragmalevy, commonly called the diaphragm, is the part that vibrates to produce sound. An electrical signal is sent to a voice coil, which is attached to the diaphragm. The interaction between the voice coil and a magnetic field causes the diaphragm to move rapidly, creating sound waves. The material and shape of the diaphragm significantly influence the sound quality and frequency response of the speaker.
