Designelement, or design element, is any discrete component used in the design of an artifact, interface, or space that contributes to its appearance, meaning, or function.

Visual elements include line, shape, color, texture, and typography. Structural elements cover grid, layout, and spacing. Interactive elements comprise buttons, links, input fields, and menus. In product and architectural design, materials and forms also function as designelements.

Designelements are selected and arranged according to principles such as balance, contrast, hierarchy, alignment, and consistency to support usability, accessibility, branding, and aesthetics.

In web design, common designelements are header, hero image, card, button, icon, navigation bar, and form field. In graphic design, they include logos, typography, color palettes, imagery, and layout.

The term is used across fields and disciplines; it is often treated as a building block that combines with others to form coherent systems such as visual identities or user interfaces.
