Demarkaní refers to a type of traditional El Salvadoran martial art that originated from the indigenous Pipil people. This fighting style is characterized by its use of sticks, hand-to-hand combat, and footwork. Trained practitioners, known as demarkanistas, employ various techniques including sweeps, throws, and joint locks to neutralize their opponents.

The demarkaní tradition has its roots in the pre-Columbian era and was influenced by the Pipil culture. It was used as a form of self-defense, a means to resolve conflicts, and even in ceremonial contexts. With the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors, the art was suppressed, and its knowledge was passed down orally among a few families.
