Deloldering refers to the process of removing solder from electronic components or printed circuit boards (PCBs). This is typically done when a component needs to be replaced, a solder joint is faulty, or for repair and rework purposes. Various tools and techniques are employed for deloldering, with the choice depending on the type of component, the size of the solder joint, and the user's skill level.

One common method involves using a desoldering pump, also known as a solder sucker. This tool uses a spring-loaded plunger to create suction, which draws molten solder away from the joint after it has been heated with a soldering iron. Another popular method utilizes desoldering braid, or wick. This is a braided copper wire that is heated by a soldering iron and then placed against the solder joint. The heated braid absorbs the molten solder through capillary action.

For more delicate components or situations requiring precise removal, desoldering stations are often used. These are integrated units that combine a soldering iron with a vacuum pump and interchangeable tips, offering controlled suction and heat. Manual removal of solder bridges or excess solder can also be achieved by carefully reheating the unwanted solder with a soldering iron and then either wiping it away with a clean, damp cloth or using a wooden skewer or similar non-conductive tool to gently guide it. Proper deloldering is crucial to avoid damaging components or the PCB itself, ensuring the integrity of the electronic assembly.
