Darktype is a type of Pokémon. Pokémon of the Dark type are known for their underhanded tactics and nocturnal nature. They often possess traits that allow them to exploit an opponent's weaknesses. This type is super effective against Psychic and Ghost types, while being resistant to Psychic and resistant to Dark types themselves. Conversely, Dark type attacks are not very effective against Steel and Fairy types, and Dark type Pokémon are weak to Fighting and Bug type attacks.

Common characteristics of Dark type Pokémon include being stealthy, cunning, and sometimes aggressive. Many are associated with the night, shadows, or deception. Their movepools often reflect these traits, featuring attacks that can cause status conditions like confusion or flinch. The Dark type was introduced in Generation II of the Pokémon games. Notable Dark type Pokémon include Umbreon, Houndoom, and Tyranitar. The type was created in part to balance the power of the Psychic type, which was dominant in the first generation.
