Currículo is a Portuguese term with two main meanings. In common usage, it denotes a document that summarizes a person’s education, work history, and skills for job applications. In education, it refers to the planned set of subjects, competencies, and learning experiences that a school or program intends to deliver.

Etymology and usage: the word derives from Latin curriculum, meaning a course to be run. The phrase currículo vitae, or CV, literally means "course of life." In practice, different regions prefer different emphases: currículo is often used for the vitae in Portuguese, while the educational sense is more explicit when discussing curricula.

Currículo in the job market: a typical currículo includes personal data, professional objective, education, professional experience, skills, language abilities, certificates, and references. Longer, detailed CVs are common in academia or international contexts, whereas shorter summaries may be used for specific applications. Brazil and Portugal use the same term but with different conventions, including formatting and length expectations.

Currículo in education: as an educational curriculum, it defines the set of disciplines, learning objectives, competencies, and assessment criteria that shape a program or grade. It is organized by levels and subjects, and it may be influenced by national or regional guidelines. In Brazil, the Base Nacional Comum Curricular (BNCC) sets nationwide learning standards; in other countries, analogous frameworks outline core competencies and outcomes.
