coverinclude

Coverinclude is a term used in some wiki and template-driven documentation workflows to designate content that is intended for the cover page or front matter of a document, rather than the main body of the article. The purpose is to enable automatic generation of a cover section when a page is exported, printed, or compiled into a book without duplicating content in the article body.

Across systems, coverinclude content is typically stored separately from the main article content, sometimes as a dedicated subpage or as a block within a template that is only rendered for cover or export builds. In MediaWiki-inspired workflows, communities may place cover data under a subpage such as TemplateName/coverinclude or wrap it with includeonly/noinclude blocks so that it appears only on the cover and not in standard page views.

Because implementation is not standardized, coverinclude behavior depends on the project’s templates and export tooling. When used, it allows publishers to maintain a single source page while controlling what appears on the cover in print or PDF formats. It also requires careful maintenance to keep cover content in sync with the article body.
