Contramedida is a term used in Spanish and Portuguese to denote a measure taken to counteract a threat, vulnerability, or undesired outcome. In English, the direct equivalent is countermeasure. The concept is broad and neutral, encompassing technical devices, organizational policies, and procedural actions designed to reduce risk or negate harm.

The term is widely applied across fields such as information security, military defense, public health, disaster management, and environmental policy. In information security, contramedidas include technologies and practices like firewalls, encryption, access controls, intrusion detection, patch management, and incident response plans. In military and defense contexts, electronic countermeasures (ECM), physical security measures, and surveillance are typical examples.
