compressorist
A compressorist is a musician who plays a compressor, which is a keyboard instrument that uses compressed air to produce sound. These instruments, often referred to as reed organs or harmoniums, were popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The compressorist operates foot pedals that drive a bellows, which in turn pushes air through reeds, creating the musical tones. The pitch and timbre of the sound are controlled by pressing keys and manipulating stops or drawknobs, similar to an organ.
Compressorists were commonly found in churches, homes, and as accompaniment for silent films or theatrical performances
