Colorsintended is a term used in digital design and print workflows to describe the color value that a designer or brand specifies for a given element, before any device-specific reproduction or perceptual adjustments. It represents the target color in a defined color space (for example sRGB, Adobe RGB, or CMYK) that serves as the reference point for production and verification.

In color management, colorsintended functions as the source color in a workflow. Designers embed or attach the intended color values to assets using color swatches or ICC profiles. When materials are produced, device profiles and rendering intents translate the colorsintended to colorsreproduced, which may differ due to gamut limitations, substrate, lighting, and printing process.

Evaluating how faithfully colorsintended is realized involves color difference metrics (Delta E) and soft proofing. The smaller the Delta E between colorsintended and the reproduced color, the closer the result to the target. However factors like metamerism and viewing conditions can cause perceived differences.

Brand colors defined by Pantone, hex codes, or CMYK equivalents illustrate colorsintended across media, providing a consistent reference across design and production.

Limitations and terminology: colorsintended is not a universal technical standard; different organizations may use different terms and measurement methods, and it remains a conceptual reference rather than a fixed value across devices.
