cocommissioned
Cocommissioned, often written with a hyphen as co-commissioned, is an adjective describing a work or project that is commissioned by two or more organizations, individuals, or funding bodies that share responsibility for initiating, financing, and sometimes producing the work. In practice, a cocommissioned work results from a formal agreement in which the commissioning parties pool resources, set shared artistic or scholarly goals, and outline the distribution of rights, premiere plans, and revenue. The term is most commonly used in the arts—music, theatre, dance, and visual arts—but can also apply to research projects, exhibitions, and other collaborative ventures.
Typical arrangements designate a lead commissioner or steering committee while other funders contribute funds and influence
Co-commissioning can enable larger-scale works and broaden audiences by drawing on multiple institutions’ networks and resources.
