Cigarettillverkning, also known as cigarette manufacturing, is the industrial process of producing cigarettes for tobacco consumption. This complex operation involves several stages, from processing raw tobacco leaves to the final packaging of the finished product.

The initial stage involves the harvesting and curing of tobacco. After curing, the leaves undergo a process called "re-drying" to adjust their moisture content, making them suitable for manufacturing. Following this, the dried leaves are processed to remove stems and are then "blended." Blending involves combining different types of tobacco, often with additives, to achieve a specific flavor profile and burning quality.

The blended tobacco is then fed into a cigarette-making machine. These machines are highly automated and can produce thousands of cigarettes per minute. The tobacco is cut into fine strands, mixed with paper and filters, and then formed into cigarette rods. These rods are then cut to the desired length.

After the cigarette rods are formed, filters are attached. The majority of modern cigarettes use cellulose acetate filters. The filter is tipped onto the rod using a tipping paper, which is often printed with the brand's name or logo.

The final stage is packaging. The finished cigarettes are fed into packaging machines that wrap them in foil, then place them into packs, which are then cellophane-wrapped and placed into cartons for distribution. Quality control measures are implemented throughout the entire manufacturing process to ensure consistency in product weight, circumference, burn rate, and taste. Environmental controls and worker safety are also significant considerations in modern cigarettillverkning facilities.
