Chipenabled is a term used in information technology to describe devices or systems that include an embedded chip designed to provide enhanced functionality beyond basic processing, most commonly security, authentication, or secure data handling.

Typical implementations include secure elements, trusted execution environments, and cryptographic microcontrollers. Chipenabled devices store keys and perform cryptographic operations within the secure hardware, offer tamper resistance, and support secure boot and encrypted communications.

Common applications include payment cards with EMV chips, SIM and eSIM modules, hardware security modules in servers, and Internet of Things devices that require device identity and integrity verification.

Adoption of chipenabled designs improves protection against cloning, data theft, and unauthorized access but can increase cost, power consumption, and design complexity. Effective deployment relies on robust manufacturing, secure key management, and regular firmware updates.
