Ceramidelike is a descriptive term used in materials science to describe materials or surfaces that resemble traditional ceramics in their properties, without implying a specific material class. It covers actual ceramics, ceramic coatings, and ceramic-reinforced composites whose performance mirrors ceramic behavior.

Common ceramidelike attributes include high hardness and wear resistance, a high elastic modulus and compressive strength, and substantial chemical and thermal stability. Ceramidelike materials typically exhibit low electrical conductivity and high melting points, but many also share brittleness and limited fracture toughness compared with metals and polymers.

In practice, ceramidelike properties can be achieved through ceramic coatings on metal substrates (for example, alumina, silicon nitride, or titanium nitride coatings), polymer matrices embedded with ceramic fillers or particles, and glass-ceramics or ceramic-matrix composites. The term is often used in product development and marketing to convey surface or bulk performance rather than to denote a single material family.
