Centerpunkter are central reference points used to describe the location or balance of geometric objects and data sets. The term covers several distinct notions of a center in geometry and related fields.

In geometry, the center of a circle or sphere is the point equidistant from all points on its boundary or surface. The centroid, or center of mass, is the balance point of a shape with uniform density; for a polygon it is found by averaging coordinates in a suitable way, and for a solid body it corresponds to the average position of its mass distribution. The circumcenter is the center of a circle that passes through all vertices of a polygon, obtained at the intersection of perpendicular bisectors. The incenter is the center of the inscribed circle, found at the intersection of the angle bisectors.

For triangles, the centroid is the intersection of the medians and serves as the center of mass for a uniform triangular plate. For more complex polygons or three-dimensional bodies, centers can be defined in analogous ways, often requiring triangulation or integration to compute.

In data analysis and computer science, centerpunkter commonly denote representative locations within a data set. Examples include the cluster centroid in k-means clustering (the mean of points in a cluster) and, less commonly, the medoid (a data point that minimizes dissimilarity to other points in the cluster).

Centerpunkter are used across fields such as computer graphics, CAD, robotics, and geographic information systems to summarize shape, balance, or spatial distribution and to guide further computations.
