Cameraafdeling is a term often used in the context of film and television production. It refers to the department responsible for all aspects of camera operation, including the selection, maintenance, and use of cameras and related equipment. The head of the camera department is typically the Director of Photography (DP), also known as the cinematographer, who oversees the visual style and aesthetic of the film.

The cameraafdeling team includes various specialized roles. The camera operator is responsible for physically operating the camera, framing shots according to the director's and DP's vision. The first assistant camera (AC), or focus puller, is crucial for maintaining sharp focus throughout a shot. The second assistant camera (2nd AC), or clapper loader, manages the slate, loads film or media, and assists the first AC. Grip and electric departments, while often separate, work very closely with the cameraafdeling to provide lighting and camera support such as dollies, cranes, and rigging.

The specific responsibilities and size of a cameraafdeling can vary significantly depending on the scale of the production. For smaller projects, individuals may wear multiple hats, while large-scale features will have a more extensive and specialized crew. Their primary goal is to capture the highest quality images possible, ensuring the visual narrative is effectively conveyed to the audience.
