Busarbitrage is a term used to describe the attempt to profit from price differences in intercity bus travel markets. In its broad sense, it refers to strategies that seek to buy bus seats or itineraries at a lower price in one market, platform, or time, and to capture value from higher prices in another market or at a later time. The concept draws on arbitrage ideas from financial markets but applies them to transportation fare structures, inventory controls, and consumer demand.

Mechanisms of busarbitrage typically rely on pricing fragmentation across carriers, regions, or ticketing platforms, as well as the existence of transferable or repriceable inventory and time-sensitive demand. Opportunists may look for regional disparities for the same route, promotional errors or mispricing, and differences in cancellation or refund policies that affect the expected value of a ticket. Because many bus tickets are non-transferable or have strict terms of service, practical opportunities for profitable arbitrage are constrained and often short-lived.

Economic and regulatory considerations play a central role. Ticketing policies, platform terms of service, and local regulations regarding ticket resale can limit or prohibit such activity. Even when price differences exist, the risks of cancellation, non-transferability, or consumer protection rules can erode potential gains. As a result, busarbitrage is not a widely practiced or mainstream market strategy, and scholarly or professional treatment tends to treat it as a theoretical niche rather than a mature market activity.
