Bubbly is an English term with several related meanings. As an adjective, it most often describes liquids that contain dissolved gas and produce visible bubbles, especially carbon dioxide, when opened or poured. In common usage, "bubbly" refers to sparkling or fizzy beverages such as soda, mineral water with carbonation, or sparkling wines and champagnes. The sensation is produced by CO2 coming out of solution; bubbles form at nucleation sites, rise to the surface, and contribute to the drink's mouthfeel and aroma release. Carbonation can be achieved by natural fermentation (as in many sparkling wines) or by injecting CO2 under pressure (forced carbonation).
