Bremseassistan, also known as Brake Assist or Emergency Brake Assist, is a safety feature found in modern vehicles designed to help drivers stop the car more effectively in emergency situations. It works by detecting when a driver has made a sudden and forceful application of the brake pedal, which can indicate an emergency braking scenario. Even if the driver doesn't press the brake pedal hard enough to engage the anti-lock braking system (ABS) or achieve maximum braking force, Bremseassistan intervenes.

The system typically uses sensors to monitor the speed and force with which the brake pedal is pressed. If it determines that the braking is more forceful than a typical slowdown but not as strong as it could be, it automatically applies additional braking force, essentially "assisting" the driver's effort. Bremseassistan is not intended to replace the driver's need to brake firmly in an emergency.
