In vision science, a Blindstelle denotes the physiological blind spot in each eye where the optic nerve exits the retina, lacking photo receptors. This produces no visual image, though the brain typically fills in the missing area. More broadly, the term can describe any gap in a visual field or data set where no information is available or reliable.

In traffic and driving safety, blind spots are the areas outside a driver’s direct line of sight that cannot be seen in mirrors or peripheral vision.
